Meerkerk Gardens Engagement Session on Whidbey Island
Jessica and Scott’s engagement session at Meerkerk Gardens felt like one of those quiet little Whidbey Island adventures where everything slows down in the best way. The garden paths, soft greenery, and peaceful woodland corners gave them space to simply enjoy each other, walk together, laugh, and take in the moment.
Meerkerk Gardens has such a romantic Pacific Northwest feeling. It is calm, natural, and full of little pockets of beauty, from the quiet trails to the garden scenery tucked into the trees. For Jessica and Scott, it was the perfect setting for engagement photos that felt soft, honest, and connected to who they are together.
One of my favorite little moments from the session was when we stopped by one of the old trees with this beautiful soft, reddish bark. I still can’t remember if it was cedar, redwood, or something in that family, but the bark almost felt like a sponge to the touch. It became one of those simple moments that made the session feel less like we were just taking photos and more like we were exploring the gardens together.
Jessica and Scott also knew so much about plants, trees, and the natural world around us. I honestly learned so much from them as we walked through Meerkerk Gardens. They noticed little details I probably would have walked right past, and that made the whole experience feel even more personal and connected to the place.
There was also something really grounding about the session. Walking through the garden, touching the trees, feeling the earth, and being surrounded by all that quiet greenery has a way of pulling your mind back into the present. It is almost like nature helps reset everything for a moment. You breathe differently, move slower, and remember how good it feels to simply be where you are.
What I loved most was how natural the session felt. Some of the sweetest moments came from the simple things: walking through the garden, holding hands, laughing together, and pausing in the quiet. Those in-between moments are always some of my favorites because they feel real, and they tell the story in a way that feels effortless.
